Peter, commonly known as 'Dredgy,' embarked on his wine journey in Tasmania, building on over twenty years of experience in both Tasmania and his native South Australia. Raised in Adelaide, his early life centered around sports until a serious head injury redirected his focus towards academia. With no family history in wine, Peter initially pursued science at university but took a gap year before starting his degree. Encouraged to explore winemaking, he found himself at Petaluma for harvest, where he discovered his passion.
Despite initial uncertainty, Peter found solace in the winery's lab and cellar work. His tenure at Petaluma extended as he delved deeper into winemaking philosophy, transitioning from science to winemaking studies at Adelaide University. Influenced by luminaries like Brian Croser, Con Moshos, and Anna Martens, Peter's journey progressed, leading him to work with Dr. Loosen in Germany and later joining Bay of Fires in Tasmania.
In Tasmania, Peter found fertile ground for his winemaking aspirations. Inspired by the diversity and potential of Tasmanian terroir, he ventured into crafting his own wines under the label 'Dr Edge.' Drawing from his experiences and influences, Peter's wines aim to express the essence of Tasmania's subregions. With meticulous attention to detail and a blend of traditional and contemporary winemaking approaches, Peter's wines have garnered acclaim, reflecting his journey from uncertainty to confidence in winemaking expression.
